Most houses still run on one thermostat for the whole place, which means the spare room and the kitchen are heated to exactly the same setting whether anyone's in either of them.
Thermostatic radiator valves, one per room instead of one dial for the whole house, are the cheapest fix for that and the one most people have never had explained properly. A smart thermostat on top of that adds scheduling most households would actually use if it were set up right the first time.

Are smart thermostats actually worth it?+
For most households, yes, mainly because they get used properly once someone's shown you the schedule rather than left on a single fixed setting out of the box.
Can you add a radiator to a loft conversion or extension?+
Usually, though it depends what the existing boiler and pipework can support. That gets checked before anything's promised.
